FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF LOUISIANA’S INCARCERATED CHILDREN (FFLIC) IS SEEKING:

A PART-TIME COMMUNITY ORGANIZER JOB DESCRIPTION

FFLIC is a statewide membership based organization dedicated to creating a better life for all of Louisiana’s youth especially those who are involved or at risk of getting involved with the juvenile justice system. We use the strategies of education, peer advocacy and direct action organizing to build strong, powerful families and communities and to fight for justice for our children and ourselves. We specifically seek to transform the juvenile justice system, the education discipline policies and ensure that resources move from incarceration and punishment to community based programs that help youth and families grow and thrive.

THE ORGANIZERS JOB WOULD INCLUDE:

OUTREACH AND RECRUITMENT:
• Coordinating regular outreach and recruitment of new FFLIC members in order to build a strong FFLIC chapter and data basing contacts and new members by following the all the organizing protocols in our 4 chapters – (New Orleans, Lafayette, Lake Charles and Shreveport);
• Develop any needed outreach materials with staff;
• Advocacy with parents and families struggling with a child in the juvenile justice and school systems by following advocacy protocols and ensuring all information is databased for story circle and reporting needs across the state;

COMMUNITY BUILDING AND MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:
• Working with designated staff to coordinate Leadership Development and Community Building Leadership with members to develop peer advocates and community leaders and ensuring all attendance to trainings is database;

TAKING ACTION AND CONFRONTING POWER:
• Coordinating local campaigns that empowers members to transform the juvenile justice system, transform the local school systems, demand quality community based programs and opportunities and develop other local campaigns and the membership deems necessary that stays with the FFLIC vision and mission
• Coordinating statewide campaigns with members designated staff and making sure members are present and prepped for any direct actions

ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT:
• Personal Professional Development
• Develop volunteer programs and supervise as needed
• Follow all organizational management protocol
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
MUST BE:
• Knowledgeable and resourceful regarding the juvenile justice system and school system in Louisiana
• A go-getter! Someone who takes initiative and leadership to implement a vision
• Passionate about racial and economic justice and committed to the goal of reducing incarceration and increasing funding for community based programs for youth
• Outgoing and a strong communicator, written and verbal.
• A team player, willing to work with a diverse staff and membership
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to travel the state of Louisiana
• Ability to work 20 hours per week
• Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary
PREFERABLY:
• Has firsthand knowledge of the local juvenile justice and/or education system
• Has experience as an advocate and/or organizer, whether formal or informal
• Has some fundraising experience

Salary range: $10.00 – $15.00 per hour salary commensurate with experience.

PART-TIME DONOR DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

FFLIC is a statewide membership based organization dedicated to creating a better life for all of Louisiana’s youth especially those who are involved or at risk of getting involved with the juvenile justice system. We use the strategies of education, peer advocacy and direct action organizing to build strong, powerful families and communities and to fight for justice for our children and ourselves. We specifically seek to transform the juvenile justice system and education discipline system to ensure that resources move from incarceration and punishment to community based programs that help youth and families grow and thrive. FFLIC seeks a creative, innovative, knowledgeable and detailed orientated Development and Communications Coordinator.

Development
– Assist executive director with raising budget;
– Develop and implement strategies for solicitation that will grow annual revenue from individuals, members, manage all appeal campaigns, manage and monitor online giving initiatives;
– Assist staff to implement fundraising strategy and coordinate logistics for fundraising events, including annual benefit;
– Coordinate events logistics to ensure an exceptional donor experience, with a focus on cultivation and stewardship. Conceptualize and implement membership programs and small donor cultivation events;
– Assist with new funder prospecting, including: research, analysis of fit, and proposal/grant writing;
– Assist staff to provide support to the Board for fundraising initiatives;
– Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communications. Prepare regular reports on all campaign; activities and follow protocol;
– Monitor revenue and expenses related to membership and individual giving; support staff in areas of development reporting;
– work collaboratively with other program areas to advance fundraising goals; meet with funders as determined by strategic plan;
– Oversee database management, gift processing, development and fulfillment of donor benefits, gift recognition donor correspondence, and mailings.

Communication
– Develop brochures with program personnel on specific programs design;
– Gather input from individuals for doing overhauls to website;
– Work with staff to develop strategies for development presence in all communications and marketing;
– Oversee the development presence on the website;
– Assume other tasks and responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MUST BE:

• Knowledgeable and resourceful regarding graphics, websites and word processing
• Have proven track record of raising funds from individual donors and special events
• 2-4 years of relevant experience
• Possesses knowledge of the juvenile justice and education system
• Is passionate about racial and economic justice and committed to the goal of reducing incarceration and increasing funding for community based programs for youth
• Outgoing and a strong written and verbal communicator
• A go-getter who takes initiative and demonstrates leadership in implementing a vision
• A team player, willing to work with a diverse staff and membership
• Able to drive and willing to travel.

PREFERABLY:

• Have lived experience of the juvenile justice and education systems

Salary range: commensurate with experience.
